There is still no snow
on the Island. I arrived for the holidays hoping to get some
sledding done and well although I couldn't get the dogs on the real
"sled", I had my Rhino scooter to play with. It's not as sturdy as a
sled, therefore, the maximum number of dogs that I can handle on it
is two. So... I decided to forget about getting snow and getting
some working titles on the gravel trails instead. First day we went
to Miscouche ( 24 km / 15 miles ) , second day we ventured to
Northam ( 24 km / 15 miles ) and the third day we made our
last trip to Richmond ( 16 km / 10 miles ). I ran Koal and Naome and
there were an awesome team of two. Not once did they show signs of
being tired and not once did they break their gait. They were on a
full trot all three runs and averaged a speed of 2.5 hours per 15
miles and 1.4 hours for the 10 mile trip. Showing promise as future
lead dogs. These runs earned their Working Team Dog titles from the
Alaskan Malamute Club of America (pending). |

Wow!! What a warm day!! There is very little snow left, into deeper
in the wooded areas. The ground is incredibly dry which makes
carting nice. This time of year, we usually get home full of mud!!

This week we have about 2 inches of
snow covering the frozen ground, just enough for short runs. The
dogs are really enjoying themselves, in the photos are various
pictures of Fiery & Zouk and Aero and Naome. |

we get to enjoy the season before spring arrives!! Up front was Koal
and Naome and behind was Fiery and Zouk.

At lead is Fiery and Zouk and Wheel is
Naome and Koal. Good news that Koal's pad is healing up great
and we started running him again despite most of the females are
in or going out of heat!
We are very pleased with Zouk's
performance, very promising for the future. Fiery is just that
FIRE in harness. This girl never quits and is learning the ropes
of being at lead quite quickly. She is probably the best female
I've ever had in harness! Noame is doing very well also, she
very consistent in her pulling. The hard part is slowing her
down in order to match up with the rest so I assume she would
tire faster. |
